About the Project

I'm Jess and this is my third deck, all created from my hand-painted images.

I've previously successfully crowdfunded the Wisdom of the Forest deck back in 2019 and The Crystal Forests deck in 2022.

I've also kept an Etsy store for almost 20 years. You're welcome to check reviews from my lovely customers on there.

Oh yes - I have a little Youtube channel ...which I haven't put much time into due to other commitments, but I invite you to take a look to see my process and behind-the scenes :)

Now it's time for the next - and biggest - project.

The Witch Retreats is a luxurious, 50-card independent oracle deck, designed to serve as a deep, visual sanctuary for modern and ancient souls. This deck has been four years in the making. It has quietly followed me across three house moves, through seasons of deep joy, sudden loss, profound grief, and ultimately, a return to abundance.

Each card comes from magic that grows in stillness. My dream is for you to draw a card, wherever you are, and find a place to pause, where the whirl of the world around you goes silent — somewhere where your spirit can curl up and heal.

Current design for one of the cards "Iris Swamp Manor". Each card will also have a number so it's easy to look up on the guidebook.

Accompanying the 'dwelling' cards will be supporting familiars, botanics and portals cards...

Funding the Artist's Advance

The 50-card deck is already fully designed, structured, and strategically mapped. However, because I stand firmly by a 100% human-art commitment in a digital world filled with AI noise, every single card must be physically brought to life on my studio easel, using traditional oils and watercolours.

I’ve completed 18 of the 50 paintings for this series. The remaining works will be created during the campaign and after funding. I’ll share frequent progress updates so you can follow the creation of the full collection.

This Kickstarter campaign functions as an Artist's Advance.

Your pledge today directly funds the raw materials—the fine art canvases, linen panels, and traditional pigments—and secures the dedicated, uninterrupted studio time required to paint the final remaining canvases over the coming autumn and winter months. Therefore, I won't have to dilute my time and energies hustling and taking side-jobs to get by while I create the paintings. By backing this project, you become a true patron of the arts, helping me bring this hand-painted universe safely from the easel to your altar table by May.

I'm aiming to have all artwork finished by February-March, but am giving us some leeway regarding painting, writing time and possible manufacturing delays.

Specifications

50 Cards: Printed on heavy-duty 350gsm art paper.
Size: 80×120mm - Large enough to see the artwork, yet small enough to easily shuffle.
The Finish: Buttery velvet-smooth matte lamination.
The Details: Shimmering metallic copper hot-stamping foil on both card faces.
The Box: Rigid magnetic flip-box with copper foil stamping.
The Guidebook: 60-page perfect-bound companion book.
Custom wrapping: Each deck will be hand-wrapped here in my studio, using wine-red tissue paper and metallic copper wax seal.

Custom-wrapping for my Crystal Forests deck, all done at my kitchen table! The Witch Retreats will be wrapped in my studio space while candles glow and dark fairy tales play in the background. This time around, all decks will be enclosed in dark wine-red paper with metallic copper wax stamped seal. Yes it's a lot of work, but it's all part of the service <3

October 2026: Kickstarter Campaign Live.
November – February: Studio Creation Phase (finishing the remaining paintings and writing the guidebook).
February - March: Finalisation of transferring and resizing physical artwork to digital files, along with editing and formatting the guidebook.
March-April 2027: Production begins with our specialist printer.
Late Spring/Early Summer 2027: Ocean freight arrives and physical shipping begins!

All 50 cards automatically get upgraded to ultra-thick, 400gsm casino-grade card stock with a smooth matte finish, ensuring a satisfying, heavy weight in the hands.
£22,000 – The Silk Ribbon Grimoire
We upgrade the companion guidebook nestled inside the box by wrapping the cover in a gorgeous soft-touch matte finish to match the deck box and add a silky ribbon bookmark to track your readings.

What you're supporting:

This Kickstarter campaign represents the culmination of a three-year journey through deep transitions, and a deeply personal part of this project involves reclaiming a dedicated space for my physical craftsmanship.

I have already completed manufacturer sourcing (plus a great backup manufacturer!) , deck plans, card layouts, most of the guidebook text, graphic designs for the box, cards, book and and packaging as well as sourcing packaging materials to get everything safely to your door. Now we just need the extra support to get the project over the line.

A portion of the funds raised beyond the baseline printing costs will go directly toward funding the essential physical studio labour time and fixtures required to paint the remaining images over the coming months. This will be quality paints and linen panels, mineral spirits and oils necessary for those paintings and new brushes (because mine are on their last legs!).

Additionally, your support will directly fund our post-campaign digital fulfilment - essentially making sure all platform and processing fees are covered.

By establishing a dedicated digital hub for this release, we ensure that the digital guidebooks, high-resolution smartphone wallpapers, and reward survey data for The Witch Retreats can be safely managed, securely catalogued, and seamlessly distributed to collectors.

When you step into the world of the Witch Retreats, you are directly funding the physical creation, material infrastructure, and global delivery of this hand-painted universe.

A note about shipping:

To my wonderful collectors who have supported my previous decks: thank you for keeping the hearth fire burning!

For The Witch Retreats, I am doing things slightly differently to make fulfilment much safer and smoother for our studio, especially with recent ongoing changes to shipping, tariffs and customs worldwide.

We are going to be using BackerKit to manage our shipping and package delivery.

What this means for you:

Your pledge today covers the deck only: When you choose your reward tier on Kickstarter today, you will not be charged for postage yet. The shipping cost field is set to £0.
Shipping is paid closer to delivery: Because I am spending the Autumn and Winter hand-painting the remaining canvases in the studio, the physical deck will be printed and ready to ship in March/April.
Why we are doing this: This system calculates the exact weight of your box automatically. It completely protects us from unexpected winter postal price hikes, and it ensures you pay the lowest, most accurate shipping fee possible.
Add-Ons made easy: It also means if you decide you want to add an extra copy of a deck or a fine art print to your parcel later, the system will add it to your box and adjust the postage perfectly without any tech glitches !

Shipping to the European Union

A gentle reminder: Due to complex modern customs regulations, we are unfortunately, having to exclude the European Union from physical delivery for this campaign. It's actually illegal for me to send what would be classed as a commercial shipment without an E.U. customs representative and they cost hundreds of pounds :(

My only way to ease this is to offer a gorgeous digital reward! I am able to send a PDF of the whole guidebook when it's ready as well as a curated collection of phone and monitor wallpapers... BUT if we sail far enough past our initial funding goal, I hope to appoint an EU customs representative and open up safe and legal EU shipping :)

Estimated Shipping & Global Tracking

To secure the lowest possible rates and absolute accuracy for our collectors, shipping fees will not be collected during this Kickstarter campaign. Instead, weight-based shipping will be calculated and collected via BackerKit next spring when your parcel is hand-wrapped and ready to fly from our UK studio.

Below are our estimated shipping brackets for a single first-edition deck parcel (including tracking):

United Kingdom: £5 – £6 (Royal Mail Tracked)
United States & Canada: £15 – £18
Rest of the World: £20 – £24

For our premium Original Painting tiers, full tracked-and-insured international courier rates will be calculated directly within those specific reward slots to ensure absolute fine-art transit protection.
