Intro & features
Welcome! I'm Richard and this is TYLYX Hobby Storage, a tile-based modular hobby storage solution for Skadis-style pegboards. I'm very excited to bring it to Kickstarter!
Easy to print and install and easy to expand and re-organise. Simple, flexible and functional with a wide range of modules for all your hobby storage needs.
Wall storage the easy way. Free up your desk and make more room for activities.
I've been into miniature painting for the past 30 years and within that time, despite good intentions, by the end of a project my desk is overflowing with tools and paints! With a love of design and 3D printing, I decided to set out and design my own storage system that could be easily 3D printed.
Skadis was the perfect structure to work off. I developed the tile based system to make it easy. No games of tetris, just install the tiles and go. And there are several ways to install Skadis, see below!
The tiles themselves are easy to print and install. And you can install and remove them without disturbing the ones around it, so you have the flexibility to re-arrange and expand your TYLYX collection.
TYLYX has a wide range of innovative modular tiles. From paint storage for all major brands (up to 33mm diameter), in both normal holder and my magnetic storage design:
To WIP (work-in-progress) shelves, which are magnetic and removable, ideal for managing your current on-the-go projects:
A wide range of drawers, which are removable from the draw modules, and come with removable inserts to divide them and sort your bits and pieces.
And lots more! See the section below for the full list

Printing and set-up
The modules have been optimised for easy print, generally not requiring supports, have a low number of parts, and are easy to assemble.
This Kickstarter is for digital STL files only to allow you to print all the modules at home. You'll need a 3D printer with a bed size of 25.6x25.6cm to print all parts. However, the standard module tile size is 18x16cm, and smaller modules are 14cmx16cm, so you can print some modules on a smaller printer such as, for example, an Bambu A1 mini.
The files will be easy to use. Open the included pre-sliced files and click "print". Or choose the included individual STL components and arrange and print them yourself.
The module list
TYLYX hobby storage has a wide range of modules, all of which are included in every tier of rewards. I've designed them to be functional, simple and innovative to get the best out of your (and my) hobby space.
Don't worry, I'll include easy-to-use documentation with the file delivery so you can quickly find all the modules you want!
Add-ons
I've designed three add-ons that you can add to your pledge (you'll see these in a separate screen after selecting one of the tier rewards). They are desktop accessories in the style of the TYLYX wall storage to further help your painting workflow.
Assembly
Assembly of 3D printed TYLYX components is generally very simple and just requires superglue. The most common parts to join are the hooks to the backs of the tiles. I've designed the attachment to be push-fit (but you'll definitely need to superglue regardless!) and you'll need a different set of hooks, one for each side of the tile, but I've designed them so you can't put them in the wrong way.
Some tiles require or can have magnets attached. Only ever put magnets in the designed recess.
!WARNING! Small, high-powered magnets present choking, ingestion, pinch and shatter hazards, and should be kept away from pacemakers, medical implants and electronic equipment. If a magnet is ingested seek immediate medical emergency care.
The magnets required are 5x2mm or 5x1mm depending on the module. I recommend neodymium N52 magnets but you can use less strong magnets if N52 strength are not available in your region.
Attaching the magnets can be a little tricky, and you'll need to make sure the right polarity is pointing outwards in each case, but included in the TYLYX full set are attachment tools to make the process much simpler (for example being able to install a full shelf of magnets in one go).
Additional components
For magnetic modules you'll need to source your own magnets, as described above, to fit into your 3D printed components.
For the vertical paint grips, you'll need to source these grips, which are available from Amazon:
Once you have them, installing them into the 3D printed components is easy, it just requires chopping out the centre part using scissors and then using the self adhesive on the grip underside to secure them to the storage.
As I grow the TYLYX range in the future, after the Kickstarter, I plan to include bespoke silicone grips. See stretch goals where I will include other prototypes I developed if we reach certain milestones!
Finally, the M4 bolts that come with the Skadis are large which impacts the usable space on the pegboard. If you replace these with your own M4 bolts and washers (I recommend large washers, for example 20mm diameter), and the washer and bolt head thickness are below 3mm, I've designed the tiles to fit over them so you can fill the pegboard with tiles, see below.
Stretch goals
The following stretch goals will be included in all tiers when we reach certain milestones!
The photos above are indicative of each stretch goal and as we hit the milestones I'll develop the show the finalised additional features and modules!
Delivery timeline
The digital files will be delivered soon after the Kickstarter campaign ends, I expect at the end of November or early December. Note that as this is a digital delivery, once the payments have been processed, refunds will not be available post campaign.
No physical rewards?
Not as part of the campaign! However merchant licenses are available, so keep posted for physical tiles being for sale soon after the Kickstarter ends.
Preview copies!
I've been working with creators so that you can see TYLYX out in the wild! You may have already spotted TYLYX modules in @chaoslordbeard's livestreams and recent hobby space renovation.
Check back for more as the campaign progresses.
About me!
Finally, me! I've been into miniature painting most of my life (starting with WD182 I believe!). I've always loved the hobby although I took a break in my 20s until getting back into it in my 30s. I've painted many an army and have an ever growing set of paints and tools that needed storing. I've also always loved designing, inventing and 3D printing, I set up my nineforge brand, and I had a lot of fun designing and perfecting the TYLYX system.
Why you should back this project
TYLYX hobby storage is designed to be a high quality, functional, easy to use and, where required, innovative storage solution. I've taken care over every aspect of the design, applying care and attention to the design of every part and feature, and testing them all with many prototypes. I can be a bit of a perfectionist at times and hopefully this translates into a product that meets your storage requirements!
I also plan for this just to be the start. After the Kickstarter I plan on adding more modules and increasing the functionality to help it fit into your painting workflow even more. Further still, I plan to sell physical items, and expand the range to other hobbies. So I hope you join me on this Kickstarter and if you have any questions the best way is to drop a comment here or on my IG profiles @rjm_minis and @nineforge.
