- And an astonishing 90-cm long plastic model of a German VIIC U-boat, quite possibly the largest miniature ever created for a board game.

In U-BOOT: The Board Game – Collector’s Edition, 1 to 4 players assume the roles of Captain, First Officer, Navigator, and Chief Engineer on board a VIIC U-boat. They coordinate their actions to fulfill mission objectives, which include patrol duty, ambushing convoys, laying mines in enemy waters, and more. From quick skirmishes, through full combat missions, to an all-out campaign, U-BOOT: The Board Game – Collector’s Edition allows you to conduct submarine operations in major naval theatres of World War Two.
The game uses a companion app, allowing for an unprecedented level of realism, as well as a challenging enemy AI that will push your skills to the limit. It features the most essential instruments of the U-boat (e.g. the periscope, the hydrophone, the Enigma) that reveal otherwise hidden information, and the app needs your input to generate an adequate AI response of the enemy force.
What's in the box

Overview
The crew of your U-boat
Each of the four roles (Captain, First Officer, Navigator, and Chief Engineer) entails unique responsibilities, encouraging the players to develop an efficient communication scheme and use genuine navy terminology, that will allow them to function effectively in the midst of battle.
- The Captain oversees the completion of mission objectives, supervises action point costs, and is responsible for the crew’s morale.
- The First Officer operates the companion app, manages the flow of information, and takes care of the crew’s health.
- The Navigator steers the submarine by setting its course and depth and updates all the essential information on the strategic and the tactical map.
- The Chief Engineer is responsible for the engines, repairs, weapon systems, as well as other mechanical issues.
Each player controls a team of eight sailors, with four of them on active duty at a given time. They move around the U-boat and carry out the Captain’s orders. These range from maneuvering the submarine and avoiding detection, to managing repairs and launching deadly attacks against Allied shipping.
Companion app
The companion app delivers a real-time, realistic gameplay experience. But while it features the most essential instruments of the U-boat (such as the periscope, the hydrophone, and the Enigma, among others), the vast majority of gameplay still takes place on the game board. The instruments reveal otherwise hidden information and, and the app requires only certain data in order to generate an adequate AI response of the enemy force. It’s used to:
- steer the U-boat in a three-dimensional real-time generated environment
- show your submarine’s status, from damage to battery charge state
- use various instruments, change torpedo types or fire guns
- manage game and scenario settings and activate time compression functionality
- build your own missions and share them with other players
It is also responsible for all the ambient sound effects, thus immersing the players even deeper into the claustrophobic interiors of the type VIIC submarine. But fear not! With open-and-play being a design priority, as well as streamlined rules, video tutorials, and variable difficulty levels for each player, you will be launching torpedoes in no time!
