What is Underworld?

The Underworld: Sunless Depths project has three main elements: a 256-page core sourcebook with GM and player options, a 160-page full campaign adventure, and a massive set of props, maps, tokens, and tools for in-person play called the Survivors Kit. 

All are compatible with 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons and the Tales of the Valiant RPG. Full VTT support is available through Shard Tabletop.

Sourcebook

The Underworld sourcebook contains both a wealth of player options and a huge selection of GM tools for adventures far below the earth. In addition to dozens of monsters, spells, and subclasses, it includes modular caverns and realms: a drow empire, kobold warrens, dwarven strongholds, duergar, the undead, and more. 

This sourcebook also includes 4 major drop-in villains: The Undying Queen of the Dead, the Cave Dragon Sovereign, the Cult of Worms, and the Onyx Lords.

Adventure Book

The Underworld: Descent Into Darkness campaign offers 10 chapters for a complete story from levels 1 to 12, written in 3 acts. Don't want that big a tale? The caverns and encounters are easy to strip for parts if you so choose, and they make use of creatures, villains, and options from the Underworld sourcebook. 

And you can expand on this campaign with the Survivors Kit...

Survivors Kit

The Underworld Survivor's Kit expands and supports the Descent Into Darkness campaign with: 

• 10 in-world handouts of major puzzles, 
• 15 encounter and realm map sheets, 
• 30 monsters to hang on your GM screen (with full stats on your side!), 
• 5 sheets for locations, 
• 10 NPCs to show on your screen, 
• 16 pages of pregen characters,
• plus dozens of monster tokens on 4 punch-out sheets. 

Every element exists in rich printed form, to make your game time stand out.  

The Limited Editions will be quite limited for this project. Double foil covers, ribbon bookmarks, and printed endpapers make this a true collectible.

Hand bound in top-grain leather, with marbled endpapers, foil stamping, and bookbinder's cords to provide an edition for the ages. This edition takes a little longer to produce, but it is worth the wait.

Design For Kobold Press: Open Call

Design for Kobold Press! 

As part of the Underworld: Sunless Depths Open Call, backers at the CAN$35 level and up are invited to craft a short pitch for an adventure set in the darkest depths of any world and using foes from D&D 5E and Tales of the Valiant. 

Details for how to submit your pitch will be posted for backers only on October 12, and pitches must be provided by October 30. Each backer can submit one pitch.

The backer whose adventure is selected will be contracted, paid, and credited for their work, to be published by Kobold Press in 2027.

This project's stretch goals have been unlocked by the number of backers, not the number of dollars pledged. 

First up is the Hall of Crimson Spiders solo adventure, now UNLOCKED! The second is a second solo adventure, Lord of Bats, also unlocked, and backers also unlocked the Underworld Pregen characters from the recent Kobolds at the Table stream.

Shipping

Kobold Press offers friendly shipping to Canada, the EU, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. This means lower shipping costs, because the books go via bulk shipping to local partner companies instead of by airmail from a US warehouse.

Estimated shipping details for your country can be found in the pledge tiers; those estimates will be finalized in the survey stage.

For tariffs, your guess is as good as ours. Currently, game books are not subject to US tariffs, but cards, boards, and tokens are (so the Survivors Kit could be subject to tariffs). Because tariffs could change at any time, locking in a price now helps you avoid upcharges later.
