How to Play
What is VoidRoll?
From the High Seas to the Deep Void... The Adventure Continues!
What is VoidRoll?
VoidRoll is a strategic, solo-focused sci-fi dice-assignment adventure. You act as the captain of an independent starship, navigating a dangerous sector of deep space in each map.
Your mission is to build a legendary reputation by fulfilling Contracts, managing your ship's Systems, and deploying Drones to harvest vital resources.
How to Win: The game is a race against your own ambition. You win immediately if you reach the target Victory Point (VP) threshold (Standard Game: 50 VPs) before your ship is destroyed.
How to Lose: The void is unforgiving. You lose the game immediately if:
- Your Hazard Track reaches Level 10 (Hull Failure).
- Your Current Shield Level drops below 0 (Catastrophic Breach).
Game Length: A standard game typically lasts ~30 turns (45-75 minutes) - faster in solo, longer with 3, 4 or even 6 players. You have a partially shared dice pool.
Where Does It Fit? The "Strategic Sweet Spot"
If you are familiar with the solo and roll-and-write genres, you might be wondering exactly how "heavy" or complex VoidRoll is. I have designed it to hit a very specific sweet spot—satisfyingly crunchy, but smooth to play.
Here is how it compares to other well-known titles:
1. Compared to Roll4Rum
- Evolution of Strategy: While Roll4Rum is a tense race focused on risk calculation and precision movement, VoidRoll is a deeper, engine-building experience.
- More Agency: You have more dice (5-7 vs. 3) and far more ways to use them.
- Long-Term Planning: Instead of focusing on the immediate next turn, you are managing a complex Ship Console. Decisions made in Turn 5 (like planting a drone) are investments that pay off in the long run.
2. Compared to Fleet: The Dice Game
- Similar Weight: If you enjoy the satisfying combos and engine-building of Fleet, you will feel right at home here.
- The Spatial Layer:VoidRoll adds a crucial spatial element. You aren't just marking boxes; you are moving a ship across a hex map. Where you are is just as important as what you roll. You have to physically travel to planets to plant your drones and visit stations to buy the upgrades you've unlocked.
3. Compared to Hadrian's Wall
- More Accessible:Hadrian's Wall is a masterpiece of complexity, but it can sometimes feel like filling out a spreadsheet. VoidRoll captures that same satisfying feeling of interconnected systems—where upgrading your power plant lets you build better drones, which gather resources to upgrade your lasers—but streamlines it into a cleaner, more visual experience.
- Less Overhead: You won't get bogged down in minutes of bookkeeping between dice rolls. The focus remains on the action and the adventure on the map.
In Short:VoidRoll is for the gamer who loves the accessibility of a Print & Play but craves the depth of a big-box Euro game. It’s a medium-weight engine builder that fits on your kitchen table.
A Full Year of Space Exploration
Just like its predecessor, VoidRoll offers a Year-Long-Adventure. Backers will receive a brand new, unique Sector Map every month throughout 2026, featuring new mechanics, enemies, and stories to explore. The best part about is that you will vote each month for the content you want to see a few weeks later.
