We needed better questions for deeper conversations For the last few years, our global innovation team at World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has hosted gatherings all over the world. We’ve run workshops in Tanzania, strategy days in Hong Kong and leadership circles around a fire in the Netherlands. We tried lots of question card decks to get people talking, and none of them quite worked for us. We wanted questions that open people up. Questions that make us curious and get us thinking together. The kind that lead to answers that inspire us, stretch our imagination and help us make sense of what’s happening in the world. What we really wanted was growth, connection, and the kind of openness that builds trust. We’ve seen it again and again: when people talk heart to heart, good things follow. Sometimes it’s a lasting friendship. Sometimes it’s a multi-million project. So we made our own deck, designed for depth. We gave it away, and people kept asking for more First, we gifted the deck digitally to all 10,000 of our WWF colleagues. People started printing them in their local print shops. So, we decided to print a small batch and started using it around the dinner tables with friends and on walks with family, we also continued testing it in the meetings and gatherings we facilitated at the World Wide Fund for Nature. So many people kept asking: "Can I get a copy?" So, to everyone who asked: yes, now you can! We are pretty excited about bringing Wild Conversations into the world! And thrilled that we are partnering with WeWilder, one of WWF’s innovative projects, for bison rewilding and community development in the Tarcu Mountain of Romania. After production costs are covered, all profit will support WeWilder! What’s in the (panda) pouch 60 question cards: 5 for each of 12 species (humans included) An animal fact and a question on every card, to invite you to pause, reflect and share Hand-drawn illustrations by the amazing Andrea Peralta, part of the WWF Innovation Team Instruction cards to help you get started Made with care, from card to pouch Printed on paper made from corn waste: the cards are printed in Romania on Favini Crush Corn paper. It’s made in Italy from leftover corn cobs, recycled paper and less virgin wood. Look closely and you’ll spot tiny flecks of corn in each card. The mill runs on 100% renewable energy, and the paper is FSC certified and biodegradable. Wrapped in a pouch that supports inclusive work: each deck comes in a reusable cotton pouch, sewn by Atelierul de Pânză in Romania. This social enterprise makes its bags in its own workshop, where people with disabilities have meaningful jobs. Shipped plastic-free: every deck (or set of decks) ships in plastic-free packaging, so nothing ends up in the bin that shouldn’t. How to play Draw a card and see where it takes you. Use it at the start of a meeting, around the dinner table, on a walk, or alone with your journal. There's no right order. Where your money goes / every deck helps bring bison back Wild Conversations is published by WeWilder, a social enterprise working in partnership with WWF Romania. It’s part of a large effort to bring bison back to the Southwestern Carpathians, started by WWF and Rewilding Europe in 2014. Twelve years later, 250 bison roam free in Romania’s Tarcu Mountains again. WeWilder helps local people benefit from that wild nature. It runs eco-tourism trips, nature experiences and courses in skills like animal tracking and experience design. It also builds local businesses that are good for nature, like a food cooperative. After production costs are covered all profit goes to WeWilder's work bringing bison and nature back, with locals at the heart. Meet the makers Wendy van Leeuwen: wrote the questions. Andrea Peralta: drew every animal and designed the deck. Anne Merkle: editor, and the person who made space for this to happen. Phil Jacobius: found our printer and makes sure your deck reaches you. Oana Mondoc and WeWilder: our publisher and home for the bison.
