The Story

"The Story" section heading

You are a wizard on a quest to recover the Orb of Clarity, a magic item stolen from you by an enemy sorcerer. The orb allowed you to construct a mind palace, granting physical structure to your thoughts and memories.

Of course, there was a catch: Anyone capable of using the orb could gain access to your mind palace and everything inside. To protect your memories, you must get it back.

You spent years planning this quest, researching your Enemy’s defenses, the dungeon that they built below their keep, and the traps and puzzles planted therein. However, your Enemy was wise to your machinations. They used the Orb of Clarity to infiltrate your mind palace and disrupt its halls. They changed your memories without you noticing, corrupting the research that you had so diligently done.

Now, you are barricaded deep inside your Enemy's dungeon. In this moment of relative safety, you must enter your mind palace. Find what has been changed. Fix what you can and purge what you cannot. Find the truth, and you just might salvage this cursed quest.

The Game

"The Game" section heading

What is Wizard Mind Palace?

A solo-journaling game about a wizard that must repair their memories to complete a quest they've spent years preparing for. Guided by journaling prompts, you will tell the story of the wizard's preparations, each bit of knowledge, weapon, and tool that they collected. Once their memories have been repaired, you will face the remaining challenges of the quest and the Enemy you've been pursuing.

What is a journaling game?

Journaling games are a type of tabletop roleplaying game. The player takes on the role of a character, but instead of creating a story with the guidance of a game master, the player creates a story through written journal entries that respond to situations and prompts presented in the game book. By combining roleplaying with creative writing, these games allow for a guided but open-ended storytelling experience.

What is a mind palace?

A mind palace is a memory technique that uses physical spaces to help remember information. By setting important information inside a familiar location, such as in a particular room of their house, the user of the technique recalls that information by “moving” through their mental map of the house to that room, where the information presents itself to them. This technique appears in numerous works of fiction; it has been utilized by characters such as Sherlock Holmes and Hannibal Lecter.

What do you need to play?

  • Two tokens: one for your wizard and one for your Enemy.
  • A deck of cards: either standard playing cards or, for an extra layer of inspiration, tarot cards.
  • Journaling supplies: pen and paper or digital.

What is the story like?

The majority of the game is spent exploring your wizard's memories of preparing for this quest. Each memory details the backstory of one piece of information or one item that you collected to prepare. After exploring a memory, you will discover how your Enemy corrupted that memory, and then you will fix the memory so that you will be able to complete your quest.

The vibe of each memory is that of Gandalf digging through dusty tomes while sipping tea when he was researching Bilbo's ring. Finally, once you have repaired enough memories, you will have the knowledge you need to leave your mind palace and complete your quest.

The Book

"The Book" section heading

Wizard Mind Palace will be printed as a perfect-bound, softcover book at A5 size (5.8" x 8.3") and approximately 50 pages. Flaps on the front and back covers will show the table of contents and the main gameplay flowsheet to reduce flipping back and forth between the rules section and the story prompts section.

Timeline

"Timeline" section heading

The game has been written, play-tested, edited, laid-out, and proofread. Cover and interior art has been created and finalized. Production arrangements are in place using a printing company that I have used several times in the past. All of this leaves us with the following tentative timeline:

  • November 2026: this KS campaign wraps up successfully, and I give the printer the go-ahead to begin printing.
  • December 2026: digital fulfillment begins.
  • January 2027: I receive the books from the printer.
  • February 2027: fulfillment begins.
  • March 2027: no matter where you are in the world, you have received your rewards.

Shipping

"Shipping" section heading

We will be fulfilling all orders in-house using Pirate Ship. I have used this service to fulfill my other crowdfunding campaigns with great results. As Wizard Mind Palace is ready to print, and I believe I will be able to begin shipping within a couple of months (it mostly depends on how long it takes to receive all of the products from the printers), I am collecting shipping now instead of later through a pledge manager.

This should mean less uncertainty for you, as you can pay for everything at once. You will still need to fill out a backer survey after the campaign with your shipping address, but there should be no further costs to you.

You will see your total shipping cost added to your pledge after you select your pledge tier and add-ons. The shipping costs for the book alone is shown below. Selecting add-ons with your pledge will increase these costs slightly.

For backers in the UK and EU, I will be working with a fulfillment partner in order to get your rewards to you with as few additional fees as possible.

Shipping prices for Tier 2 backers.
