— description du concepteur

The Story Behind Writing on the Wall

A Message That Changed a Kingdom

In the book of Daniel, a mysterious hand appears and writes a message on the wall of a king’s palace. The message is clear, but its meaning is not. The king can see it, but cannot understand it. Only through interpretation is the truth revealed.

Writing on the Wall draws inspiration from this story about revelation, wisdom, and careful interpretation.

Bringing the Story to the Table

In the game, players step into distinct roles inspired by the story:

The Hand receives a message and must reveal it through drawing.

The King sees the drawing as it is being created, but must describe it without giving the message away.

The Interpreters must determine the meaning using only what the King says.

Just like the story in Daniel, seeing the message is not the same as understanding it.

A Game for Fellowship and Fun

Writing on the Wall was designed to bring people together, families, church groups, youth groups, and game nights. It’s easy to learn, quick to play, and encourages laughter, creativity, and thoughtful communication.

You don’t need to know the story of Daniel to enjoy the game, but for those who do, the theme adds a meaningful layer to every round.

How to Play

Form Teams
Players divide into two or more teams.

Draw Prompt Cards
On a team’s turn, one player draws three prompt cards and chooses one to play. Each prompt is worth 1–3 points depending on difficulty.

Assign Roles

  • The Hand draws the prompt.
  • The King watches the drawing from the opposite side of the fabric.
  • The Interpreters try to guess the prompt.

The Drawing Phase
The Hand has one minute to draw the prompt on the back side of a fabric screen stretched on a frame.
The King describes what they see being drawn, but must be careful. If the King says the actual prompt, the team earns no points.

Interpretation & Scoring
The Interpreters guess the prompt based only on the King’s description. If they succeed within the time limit, the team earns the point value of the chosen card.

Next Team’s Turn
Play continues until the agreed-upon score is reached or time runs out.

Writing on the Wall is designed for:

  • Families looking for a faith-friendly game night
  • Church groups and youth groups
  • Bible study groups wanting a fun, interactive activity
  • Party gamers who enjoy drawing and word games
  • Players who love teamwork, communication, and creative problem-solving

We’ve designed the game to be easy to learn, quick to play, and enjoyable for a wide range of ages and group sizes.

Why We Made This Game

We believe games are powerful tools for bringing people together.

The story of the Writing On The Wall is about more than a mysterious message—it’s about interpretation, wisdom, and trusting in God. We wanted to take that moment from the book of Daniel and turn it into an experience that encourages laughter, creativity, and thoughtful communication.

After creating and producing three board games, we felt called to make something that could live comfortably in both family game nights and church settings—a game that’s fun first, but meaningful underneath.

Writing on the Wall is our way of turning a timeless story into a shared experience at the table.
