The Birth of the Fey Realms
Every world begins with a story.
Mine began with darkness.
Not the kind found beneath mountains or in forgotten dungeons, but the kind that slowly closes around your own eyes.
Within the span of two years, both of my retinas detached. Multiple surgeries followed. One eye lost its lens completely. The other was saved, but only after repeated operations. There was a time when I lived almost entirely through a single functioning eye. Looking in the mirror, I couldn't help but think of the Cyclops from the old myths—not because they were monsters, but because they saw the world through one eye.
For a long time, that felt like my reality.
While recovering from surgery, there wasn't much I could do. Reading was difficult. Photography, a lifelong passion, was nearly impossible. Even everyday tasks became challenges. But my imagination remained untouched.
So I asked myself a simple question.
If I truly were a Cyclops, what kind of world would I want to live in?
Certainly not one filled only with endless war and darkness.
I wanted a world where ancient forests whispered secrets older than kingdoms. A place where dragons weren't merely enemies but guardians, teachers, and forces of nature. Where villages could wander across enchanted landscapes, where hidden portals connected impossible places, and where every trail disappearing into the woods promised another adventure instead of another ending.
I wanted a world where hope survived.
A world where ordinary people could become heroes simply because they chose to help someone else.
That single question became the foundation of The Fey Realms.
Every kingdom, every forest, every castle, every monster, every deity, every map, and every adventure grew from the idea that wonder should never disappear simply because life becomes difficult.
The Fey Realms is a place where magic is ancient, exploration is rewarded, and every horizon hides another story waiting to be discovered. It is a world filled with enchanted cities, forgotten ruins, mysterious artifacts, living legends, and creatures both beautiful and terrifying. It is designed to capture the feeling many of us experienced when we first sat down at a tabletop with friends and realized that our only limit was our imagination.
In many ways, building this world became part of my own recovery.
Every chapter I wrote was another step away from hospital rooms.
Every map replaced another medical scan.
Every adventure reminded me that even when your path changes unexpectedly, the journey isn't over.
Today, The Fey Realms Collection has grown far beyond a single book. It is becoming an entire library of campaign settings, adventures, bestiaries, maps, magic items, lore, and stories, all connected by one belief:
There is always another path beyond the veil.
Perhaps that's why the Cyclops became such a fitting symbol.
Not because he had only one eye.
But because even with one eye, he never stopped looking toward the horizon.
And neither did I.
Artwork used for the book cover, and section separators where created from images drawn using ProCreate on an iPad Pro M2 12.9 and 2nd generation pencil, which where then focus stacked using AI generative fill to create homogenous blending between images, layers and layer masks using Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Photoshop AI generative fill.
